Family Record

(1584 - 2013)

In 1905, Bob Wray’s great uncle, John W. Davis, wrote a family history. The information in this section takes excerpts from that family record, with additional information gathered from other sources to trace Bob Wray’s heritage back to the original settlers of the Massachusetts Bay Colony during the Puritan Great Migration.

James Davis, Sr (1584 - 1679) & Cicely Thayer (1600 - 1673)

migrated with their children to New England during the Puritan Great Migration (1620-1640).  In 1640, James Davis was among the initial 12 men granted permission to establish a new settlement in Haverhill, Massachusetts.[6]  They lived near Rocks village, East Haverhill, and James was for some years Justice of the Peace; often a selectman and juryman; a deputy to the General Court in 1660.
